The Southern Idaho Sailing association has had members sailing Lasers since the 1980’s. They are a fun “board” style boat and can be cartopped (if you have a helper) or easily trailed by the smallest vehicle. The Laser is a pleasant boat to learn on & sail in light air, but becomes a hotrod in heavy breezes. It is also an Olympic class platform with sail sizes changing for children, women and men’s classes.
There has been resurgence in the SISA Laser Fleet since 2013. We now have approximately 8-10 active boats from Sun Valley, Twin Falls & the western Treasure Valley and hope for more. We also have a dedicated Laser & catamaran regatta every July. It’s a throwback, beach boat celebration and proof that even landlocked Idaho sailors can have fun in the sand. Click here for more information on this year’s event.
In 2016 the SISA Board of Directors authorized the purchase of a club owned Laser and construction of a custom, multi boat trailer. Our plan is simple – we want to offer Full Club Members and their families the opportunity to sail regardless if they own a boat. We picked the Laser for affordability, smiles, growth of skills potential and ease of managing a small fleet.
As of 2017 we have two Lasers available for use at SISA Regattas. (Many thanks to Mark Cole for donation our second SISA boat.) Our initial goal is to have the two club boats utilized and reserved during SISA events starting in May and ending in October.
We are asking for your involvement. We need beach captains, folk interested in maintaining our small fleet, donations of boats & gear and feedback. Help us grow the club. Sail a Laser!
Thanks & good winds.
